AUSTSWIM 30th Anniversary Dinner incorporating the 2009 AUSTSWIM National Awards Ceremony

Saturday the 4th of July 2009 brought on the celebration of AUSTSWIM’s 30th Anniversary, thirty years of leadership and education across AUSTRALIA in this vital area of community aquatic safety.

To mark this special occasion, members of the aquatic industry gathered to help celebrate AUSTSWIM’s milestone and achievements, whilst taking the opportunity recognize, honor and congratulate individual AUSTSWIM, Teachers, Presenters and Recognised Swim Schools for their respective contributions to aquatic education and water safety; with the 2009 National AUSTSWIM Awards Ceremony incorporated into the night’s proceedings, at the striking Radisson resort, Gold Coast Queensland.

With over 160 guests in attendance including presenters, teachers, swim schools, family and friends the evening kicked off with Master of Ceremonies, Olympic medallist and AUSTSWIM ambassador; Brooke Hanson officially opening the night as the sun set on the coast, providing the perfect environment to relax, socialise and recognise special achievements and reflections within the industry.

Over the past 30 years AUSTSWIM has gained an outstanding national and international reputation for the training and registration of quality AUSTSWIM Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety.

AUSTSWIM has trained over 120 thousand teachers and over 18 thousand of these have completed courses in the specialist areas of Teaching Swimming and Water Safety to Infant and Preschoolers, Adults, People with a Disability and Competitive Strokes.

AUSTSWIM was privileged to have in attendance, Department of Health & Ageing, Population Heath Division representative – Samantha Diplock on behalf of Mr. Bill Rowe - Director of Sport and Helen Vaughan - Director of Sports Industry from the Department of Health & Ageing,

Christine Smith – MP Burleigh Heads, Sophie Valkan – CEO of Clark Rubber, immediate past President of Royal Life Saving Society – Australia - Mr. Shayne Baker, Andrew and Katherine Plint - Hannah’s Foundation, Michael and Joanne Morris - Samuel Morris Foundation, Olympic medallist and AUSTSWIM Ambassador Mr. Geoff Huegill and Brooke Hanson, Olympic medallist and AUSTSWIM Ambassador as the master of ceremonies for the evening.

The 2009 National AUSTSWIM Awards are presented to individuals nationally, that achieve the highest standards of aquatic education excellence. To be eligible for an award the nominees must have been able to demonstrate considerable experience and or knowledge in all areas of the selection criteria.
