AUSTSWIM Community Service Announcements

The new AUSTSWIM Community Service Announcements have been re-launched nationally.  The CSA's featuring Brooke Hanson and Geoff Huegill urge the public to seek swimming lessons from accredited AUSTSWIM teachers ™ and encourage potential swim teachers to undertake an AUSTSWIM course.

This is a key time for AUSTSWIM  to re-launch the CSA's as it ensures all new teachers have time to train properly and have their skills perfected to teach children and adults over the peak summer period.

Keep your eyes posted on the Television and tell us if you see them!

Changes to AUSTSWIM Re-registration

From 1st July 2007, AUSTSWIM will be introducing a new streamlined procedure for

re-registration. These changes are designed to make the process more user friendly for the teachers.

The most notable change is the '30 point system' will no longer be used. Professional development and practical teaching experience are still essential requirements of the re-registration process, however how this is reported on the teachers application will change, please read below for further details.

What Constitutes Professional Development?

Hours can be gained by attending aquatic education courses, conferences, seminars, in-house training and workshops. AUSTSWIM recognised that there are vast amounts of professional development opportunities available that would positively contribute to a teachers experience, some will be aquatic based while others may not be.

All professional development must be accredited or registered by AUSTSWIM, if in doubt please seek prior approval from AUSTSWIM.

AUSTSWIM teachers are required to keep evidence of attending professional development relevant to the AUSTSWIM qualification held. i.e. INF, PWD, AD, TCS

What Teachers are Required to do:

  • Complete the AUSTSWIM re-registration form (single Page)
  • Attach passport sized photo (only required every 9 years)
  • Estimate hours of professional development (minimum 40 hours required)
  • Provide CPR provider name and expiry date
  • Sign the AUSTSWIM registered Teacher declaration
  • Pay the appropriate re-registration fee (to cover 3 years of registration)

Random Audits

AUSTSWIM will be conducting random Audits of teachers whereby all supporting documentation will be required. Examples of evidence will be:

  • Certificate of attendance
  • Proof on official letterhead from program organiser (stating program details, date and duration)
  • CPR Certificate
